His life's work was dedicated to the mission of the Dominicans.
In 1963 Father Manfred Gerigk became a (Dominican) missionary to Bolivia for 36 years. There he received a professorship for school music and theory at the Santa Cruz University of Education.
Gerigk's musical work includes extensive piano works, orchestral works, choral works and chamber music.
The composer says: “For me, music is a game that I enjoy.” I would like to share in this joy. Life is already joyless enough in itself.
There is no need for teeth-gnashing desperation music. This is my humble musical credo.
On Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, Father Manfred Gerigk OP died in Cologne at the age of 89.
His complete musical work has been published by Wolfgang G. Haas-Musikverlag Cologne.
