Statira is the 41st of the 53 well-known operas. The first performance took place during the Carnival 1726 at the Teatro Capranica in Rome, the libretto by Apostolo Zeno (1668-1750) and Pietro Pariati (1665-1733). (Previously had Gasparini set to music the libretto in 1706.) The aria "Vien con nuova orribil guerra" is a battle aria. It also oboes occur, an instrument for which Albinoni in 1715 the first Italian to a collection of concerts (Op. 7) had written. In this particular aria the first trumpet and the first oboist share the role, to vie with soprano.
