Canto dolce für Trumpet Solo, (Grad 2-3)
ITG Journal : Canto dolce
Bernhard Krol has composed a pleasant, lyrical piece for unaccompanied trumpet. The composition is constructed in short segments with the apparent intent that it be performed without breaks. The opening theme is marked Adagietto. This theme returns twice, giving the composition a rondo-like form. The segment after the Adagietto are marked Andantino, Tempo I, Andante con moto, Andantino alla barcarola, and Adagio. „Canto dolce“ is useful as an introduction to playing literature for unaccompanied trumpet. It presents challenges of endurance, interpretation, and style in an easily digested format. While the piece has a certain utility, it is not terribly exciting. The return of the first theme does little for the composition, other than to make it longer. The work is recommended as teaching repertoire.
