The Composer
Baldassare Galuppi (1706-1785) was born on the island of Burano, thus his nickname „il Buranello“. During the course of his fertile career he was to become not only Venice’s most successful composer, but also one of the most important ones of the century.
The appearance of the goddess Fame in the literary-musical tradition he present aria by Galuppi is part of a long tradition of arias in which the goddess Fame (Italian: Fama) appears onstage or even, carried by an invisible machine, seems to soar through the air. Her attribute was the trumpet. (Extract of the preface)
