The opening words and the refrain "Ave Maria" led to frequent use of the song also in church services (weddings). Here, the Latin text of the Ave Maria is often sung instead of the romantic original text to Schubert's melody. Although Schubert did not compose this song as a hymn, the composition has the greatness to make us religious.
