Franz Möckl was born in Bernau in Western Bohemia on the 2nd February, 1925. He received tuition at a very early age in violin and clarinet and was a member of the Lorenz children’s band, which travelled extensively. He was trained as teacher and musician in Eger and was a teacher at a country school in Ottowind near Coburg from 1946-1954. Afterwards he was a teachers’ instructor and music lecturer at the institute for teacher training in Coburg. From 1971 he was director of a teachers’ training college for primary and extended elementary schools and lives in retirement since 1988.
    From 1955-1965 he was official for youth and music in Upper Franconia and was in the chair of the national work association for youth and music at the Bavarian Jugendring. In 1962 the music festival at the castle of Schwanberg was called into being and the courses of musical instruction in the youth centre of Frankenhof in Erlangen were founded as well as the “Musical Summer in Obermain” in 1971. The youth symphony concerts in the Coburg national theatre were in his care from 1957-1965 and from 1955 he was lecturer at supranational courses of further education for teachers and choirmasters. From 1968-1995 he was district choirmaster of the Coburg choral circle and from 1971-1997 member of the music committee of the Franconian choral union. In 1972 he was appointed choirmaster ADC.
    He has participated in numerous German and international festivals with the Franconian chamber choir. Likewise he has collaborated with German and international orchestras. From 1955 he has made several productions for various German and international radio stations and has made many sound recordings.
    In 1971 he received the Melchior-Franck-badge, in 1978 the Bohemian-German cultural music prize and in 1979 was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit with ribbon.
