Anonymous (Kloster Einsiedeln)
12 Einsiedeler Aufzüge (Twelve Processional Fanfares)
3 (6) Natur-) Trompeten & Pauken
3 (6) (Baroque) Trumpets and Timpani
Edited & arranged by Edward H. Tarr
The editor found this music in Einsiedeln’s library in 1964, while he was spending several days there for a recording on historical instruments. (It was an LP of Mozart’s church sonatas for harmonia mundi; the instrument maker Helmut Finke played the second Baroque trumpet.) The librarian, Pater Canisius, even allowed the part-books to be taken home – four months long! – for transcription. Later (1972), when the undersigned entered the faculty of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, his students Alfred Schmid and Walter Remensberger copied the music anew, and still later (2006), his Karlsruhe
student Amanda Pepping typed them into her computer. In the past these brief but effective pieces have pleased several generations of „Schola“ students and enriched many celebrations, so that the editor is now happy to place them at the disposal of a larger public.
A glance at No. 9 will reveal a more than accidental similarity with the „Tiroler Aufzug“ (Processional Fanfare from Tirol) No. 15 from the Cistercian monastery Stams. (See Wolfgang G. Haas-Musikverlag Köln e. K., ISMN M-2054-0673-8.) The world is small!
