Remarks on the Present Edition

Our opusculum displays an AA´BB´ form, with the first A and B parts showing the movement in its original state. Here the lowest trumpet part corresponds to Biber’s double bass part. In each second section the editor has added two more trumpet parts and another for timpani, whereby it is now the timpani part that corresponds to the original double bass part. The dynamics, too, are editorial. The piece can also be performed with two choirs of trumpets. In such a case seven trumpeters are required, besides the timpanist: three for the A and B parts, four for the A´ and B´ parts.

We are printing this little jewel as a further contribution of this composer to trumpet literature, in the hope that modern trumpet ensembles – especially those performing on historical instruments – will be able to use it in concert performances, for example as an encore.
