Semana Santa is the Spanish term for the holy week (Palmsonntag bis Ostersonntag). It is celebrated extensively in the catholic countries of the Spanish-speaking countries.

The best known are the celebrations of the Semana Santa in Andalusia, where they are celebrated intensively and with great interest. But also in other regions of Spain and Latin America as well as in Italy are held corresponding celebrations. The most important part is the processions for which the composer wrote this work.
