This unique piece was written during the incorporation of the town of Porz near Cologne, Germany in 1974/1975.
The idea of this piece for two baroque trumpets (it can naturally be played on modern instruments too) comes from a very early composition by the Spaniard Juan Miguel Muchajillo de Algeciras, who was already active in southern Spain in the 14th century. Themes like "ad modum tubae" were later taken over by Guillaume Dufay and could have been performed at that time on natural instruments. Later baroque elements are also included in the composition.
Unfortunately the heroic attempts of the population of Porz to achieve independence were thwarted - so this piece is the only extant witness of this turbulent time to survive.
