The internationally acti ve American composer and viol in virtuoso, STANLEY WEINER, was born in Baltimore, Md. When he was five, he received a scholarship from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in his home town. At eight he appeared as soloist with the National Syniphony of Washington, D.C. under the direction of Hans Kindler. Later he studied violin with Paul Strassevitch as well as other subjects (conducting and chamber music) at the David Mannes School and Manhattan School of Music in New York, At 22 he was concert master of the New York City Symphony under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. After a similar engagement with the Indianapolis Symphony, he went to Europe, establishing his residence in Brussels. Since 1973 he has been teaching in the Hamburg Hochschule as professor of violin and viola.
IN MEMORIAM, opus 122 for Violin, Horn and Organ was composed in 1983. It was premiered the following year in Liege by the composer, Edward H. Tarr and Irmtraut Tarr, It was written to honor the memory of DOMINIQUE PIRE,
