... Die genaue Besetzung der Bläserstimmen ist folgende: eine Picc- Trp B, drei B-Trp und ein Flhn. Die Tonsprache des Präludiums fußt auf Quartenakkorden, Parallelen Dreiklangspassagen. Immer wieder bricht der Choral «Christ ist erstanden » unisono in der Org und den Bläsern durch und wird nur partiell ausharmonisiert, was dem Werk einen gewissen archaischen und feierlichen Charakter verleiht. The Cllorale-fantasy on "Daughter of Sion" was written for " DAS RENNQUINTETT„ and received its premiere at Olristmas 2000 in the monastery church in Kaiserslautern together with the church musidan Helmut Freitag. As was the case with the "Fantasy on Adeste Fdeles" (Order-Nr. lSMN M-2054-0152-8), written one year previously. the arrangement is of a weil known Olristmas carol in the evangelical hymnbook. The melody comes from G. F. Handel and appears in his oratorio "Judas Makkabäus" with the text "Seht, er kommt mit Preis gekrönt" (See, he comes crowned with praise). There are many references to the very original and well known four-part composition by Handel. The composition does credit to the full sound of organ and brass, corresponding to the joyous text of "Tochter Zion" (by F. H. Ranke around 1820). The work has been recorded on CD (DAS RENNQUINTETI wünscht Frohe Weihnachten" BR 150027) by "DAS RENNQUINTETT " and the organist Helmut Freitag.

Bis dato war mir nur eine Ausgabe für 4 Trompeten des «Canzon cornetto » aus dem amerikanischen Verlag Robert King bekannt. Die Neuausgabe von Haas orientiert sich näher am Original aus Scheidts Werkzyklus «Ludi musici» für vier bis fünf Stimmen mit Generalbass aus dem Jahre 1621. Obwohl die Grundtextur bereits mit den vier Solostimmen (im Original vier Zinken, resp. cornetti) zum Tragen kommt, ist die harmonische Stütze durch das Continuo auf jeden Fall eine grosse Bereicherung der Komposition. Dieses wunderbare Opus ist ein Meisterwerk kontrapunktischer Satztechnik!

The "Andante Festivo" was written for string quartet in 1922 just before the Sixth Symphony. It was on December 28, 1922 listed as string quartet and on 1 January 1939 String Orchestra Finnish National Radio Orchestra Helsinki that Sibelius initiated. He performed it in the cast with string orchestra and timpani.
The performance from 1 January 1939, a performance in Helsinki for short-wave radio transmission at the World Exhibition in New York. This performance has been preserved on wax as poignant mementoes. It is also the last time that
Sibelius conducted and the only surviving recording.
The chorale-like melody is reminiscent of Dvorak's symphony "From the New World" (or is it "God Save the Queen"?) As to Sibelius, own later Seventh Symphony and a distinctive final "Amen".
