Pfiester, Jürgen * 1955 -Choralpartita
about: „Erfreue dich, Himmel, erfreue dich, Erde“
for trumpet in B / C, organ

Jürgen Pfiester (b. 1955 in Landauf Palatinate) started his musical career at the age of 10 in the band of his hometown Rohrbach, where he received tuition first on the accordion and then piano. Already at this time, he wrote his first "compositions". Later on, however, he became more interested in music for brass instruments through which he came into contact with the church brass group. Afterwards he took horn lessons from private teachers and after 'A' Ievels and military service he studied composition at the music college in Freiburg. He worked with
various ensembles and did freelance work with the church band federation of the Palatinate. Today Pfiester lives in Lustadt/Palatinate and is actively involved in composing and arranging as weil as his main work in the domain of instructing church musicians and instrumental teaching. Here the main stress is on brass chamber music with all its aspects. The spectrum of his works extends from easy pieces for beginner groups to compositions for church service and "for all occasions" up to demanding concert works and arrangements for professional brass ensembles.

The Chorale-Partita "Erfreue dich, Himmel, erfreue dich Erde" was written at the suggestion of the trumpet player Rüdiger Kurz and was first performed with the organist Rudolf Peter Silvester in 1999 in the Marienkirche in Landau / Palatinate. The work consists of four movements and is based on the melody "Erfreue dich, Himmel, erfreue dich Erde" ("be joyous ye heavens and earth"). ln this arrangement the melodic line is especially suitable for the trumpet. The contrasting movements of the Partita could be played separately during the liturgy, for example.
